Vegyn reimagines Air’s seminal ‘Moon Safari’

Written by on February 26, 2025

With Air touring their 1998 classic Moon Safari this year, British producer Vegyn, aka Joe Thornalley, has announced a ‘reimagining’ of the album, titled Blue Moon Safari.

Vegyn, who came to prominence due to his work with Frank Ocean and Travis Scott, among others, is renowned for his atmospheric soundscapes and experimental beats, and on Blue Moon Safari, he seeks to bring a contemporary twist to an ambient-pop classic.

Set for release on Rhino on 12 April, an exclusive for this year’s Record Store Day, Blue Moon Safari will be released on blue vinyl, with Vegyn’s reworking of tracks such as Sexy Boy, La Femme d’Argent and All I Need retaining ‘the essence of the originals while pushing into new territories’, as a press release put it.

Air are commencing the third international tour leg to mark the 25th anniversary of Moon Safari in March of this year, having already performed 77 shows across Europe, North America, Latin America, Asia and Australia.

Blue Moon Safari is released on 12 April, and more information can be found here.
