Absent Ink unveils new single, ‘ratcage walk’

Described as a ‘sonic journey into the city that never was’, Absent Ink’s new single, ratcage walk, is a blend of bass-heavy garage and scything electronica.

The London-based producer has developed a reputation for crafting immersive sonic narratives that blend synths, field recordings and intricate sound design.

ratcage walk is one such example, developed from a tapestry of field recordings captured across the UK capital.

Commenting on the single, Absent Ink said, “I wanted to capture the feeling of moving through a city after dark — when sounds drift in and out of focus, and you realise you’re part of a story much bigger than yourself.”

Or, as one review of the track put it, it encompasses “the sound of a foggy city at night — caught between the energy of a rave and the solitude of an empty street. It feels like you’re hearing the city’s heartbeat, full of strangers’ voices you’ll never meet.”

The single will feature on Absent Ink’s forthcoming new album, which will be both a ‘love letter to British electronic music and an exploration of the forgotten corners of London — a place where history, sound, and mythology collide’.
