Trex collabs with Sydney Bryce on the ‘Dream Of A Dream’ EP on SUNANDBASS Recordings

SUNANDBASS Recordings launches its next chapter with a landmark release, ‘Dream Of A Dream’ EP, from London-based producer Trex. Released as SAB019, the EP pays homage to Drum & Bass heritage while pushing the genre into bold, new territory.
Trex’s journey with SUNANDBASS began in 2018 when the late DJ Randall introduced him at Ambra Night, sparking a connection that has now come full circle. Officially joining the label, Trex delivers three masterfully crafted tracks, including two standout collaborations with Sydney Bryce. These emotive and high-energy productions first resonated with audiences during live performances at the SUNANDBASS XX Edition in San Teodoro and have already proven to be dancefloor favourites.
Known for his releases on revered labels like Metalheadz and Mac2, Trex brings his signature sound to this EP, while Sydney Bryce adds her unique flair. Hot on the heels of her debut album with Flexout Recordings, Bryce showcases her vocal brilliance across these tracks, solidifying her place as a rising star in the scene.
‘Dream Of A Dream EP captures the essence of San Teodoro, blending nostalgia with innovation to mark a pivotal moment for SUNANDBASS Recordings. The release also sets the tone for an exciting year ahead for the label. Trex’s unmistakable style and Bryce’s vocal depth breathe fresh energy into the project, representing a dynamic evolution for both the artists and the imprint.
In a recent Q&A with SUNANDBASS, Trex shared the inspirations, personal stories, and creative processes behind the EP. This collaboration not only celebrates the spirit of the Drum & Bass community but also signals a bright future for the label and its artists.

SUNANDBASS Q&A WITH TREX:
1. What inspired the creation of ‘Dream Of A Dream’ EP?
The track ‘Dream of A Dream’ was inspired by various things. I think it has an ethereal feel of some early 90s dance music like 808 state, and some bouncy bass almost like some Marcus tunes from the 90s, who was and still is a big influence on me. The other 2 tracks are vocal tracks with Sydney which we have worked on over the last year or so and when I was putting together the EP they all seemed to fit together in a neat package.
2. How did it feel to collaborate with Sydney Bryce on two of the tracks, and then bring those songs to life together at SUNANDBASS 2024? 
Pretty damn special. I’ve known Sydney for 3 years now and it took that long for us to get some music ready. Sydney is such a big talent and has a wonderful spirit. It was a pleasure working with her, so to put out this music and actually perform the tracks at Sun and Bass on the beach was my highlight of 2024. It all fell into place neatly.
3. How has SUNANDBASS, or even the atmosphere of Sardinia itself, influenced the sound and feel of this EP?
Yeh definitely. Every time I have been to SunandBass, I turn back into a raver rather than an Artist because the music is as good as it gets and the atmosphere is electric. This influences me in the studio for sure and also recharges my faith in Drum and Bass music.
4. Can you share a bit about your first experience at SUNANDBASS? How has it influenced you as an artist?
It’s quite a deep one for me. DJ Randall got me out to play in Ambra Night 2018. It was a very special few days. I was on the cusp of dropping my first album for Mac2 and my set had Fats and Moose on the Mic. I really felt connected to the drum and bass scene unlike ever before. I was spending too much time locked in the studio and not enough getting out there with the community. It really is the best place for that.
5. What was your creative process like while crafting ‘Dream Of A Dream’ EP? Did it differ from your usual approach?
A more musical approach to begin with. I’m not too bad at writing musical beats and it’s great for me to do this to get away from writing ‘bangers’ all of the time, and keep the different production tools sharp. I’m intending to do a lot more of this in the near future.
6. Where did the title ‘Dream Of A Dream’ come from? What does it signify to you?
If I was to get soppy about this EP it would equate it to my dog Branston who was a street dog in Northern Cyprus and was rescued to come live with us in 2022. To live his dream life I guess.

DT900 – Ron Mexico

Despite the many weird and wonderful submissions they get from Joe Public at Data Transmission – think everything from bottles of homemade hooch to used underwear – Data Transmission freely admit that we were most surprised to receive a cassette accompanied by a polaroid photo of alphabetti spaghetti spelling out ‘I AM RON MEXICO’ in the post at the tail end of last year. Intrigued, DT dusted off their Walkman and gave the tape a listen to find that what was on offer, was, well… surprisingly good!!! They then set about finding him online, only to find that there was not a single mention of him on the internet.
Several weeks passed and having written Ron Mexico off as an elaborate prank concocted by the overactive imagination of one of their many friends with far too much time on their hands, Data Transmission didn’t expect to hear from him again. Then the postman delivered a bottle of tequila every day for twelve days. A postcard then followed, with the following message inscribed in Spanish, “Now you’re suitably inebriated, perhaps we can talk on Facebook.”
One brief chat later, Data Transmission had arranged for Ron to join us at the burgeoning snow festival, Rise, wherein we’d meet the mysterious selector in the flesh for the first time.
His rider, predictably, contained a variety of mezcal, alongside “1 semi-inflated inflatable shark, a frozen banana, and a copy of The Karate Kid on VHS.” The time in the French Alps with a masked Ron was fleeting and, having ingested what we’d consider a potentially lethal amount of Mexican spirits, Ron Mexico left as much of an enigma as he’d arrived.
Six years on, Ron Mexico has become the selector of all music for Data Transmission, the tequila to our tacos, the voice whispering vinyl secrets in our ears. Now, to mark a momentous milestone, Ron has taken on the 900th Data Transmission podcast with a special 3-hour-and-30-minute mix. It’s a cosmic, tequila-soaked odyssey spanning genres and dimensions we didn’t even know existed. 
The mix begins with the sound of a bottle of mezcal being uncorked, crescendos with field recordings from the jungles of Oaxaca, and ends with what we’re pretty sure is a live feed from the International Space Station. 
As always, Ron Mexico defies description, explanation, and logic – but honestly, we wouldn’t have it any other way.
