ECHT! pay tribute to bass music on new single

Written by on January 20, 2025

Belgian electronic outfit ECHT! have announced details of a new single, Wacky Wave, which pays tribute to bass music in all its forms.

The single, set to be released on 22 January on Sdban Records, comes ahead of their album, Boilerism, which is due to come out at the start of March.

According to a press release, the single is a ‘ rack full of humour, quirky, though balancing the raw power of the straight-on, almost effortless modern bass sound they have been working on over the past few years. […] Built on irresistible grooves, fat, deep sounds, and playful melodies that inject the track with a dose of fun.’

It’s three years sine the release of ECHT!’s debut album, Inwane, while the follow up, Sink-Along, was released in 2023. The group, which describe their sound as ‘highly influenced by electro, hip-hop, psychedelic groove, footwork, trap, jazz from the future and funk from the past’, have earned acclaim from the likes of Mixmag, DJ Mag, and Tsugi, as well as DJs Lefto, Gilles Peterson, and Jamz Supernova on BBC Radio 6.

The group has performed at venues such as the Jazz Café (London), AB (Brussels), Melkweg & Paradiso (Amsterdam), and Gretchen (Berlin), while their most recent tour spanned 14 countries, including Mexico and India. On 25 April, the group will make their UK festival debut, with an appearance at Brick Lane Jazz Festival.

ECHT! – Wacky Wave is out on 22 January.
