Jeremy Deller set for ‘Art Is Magic’ event in Dublin

Written by on September 25, 2023

Conceptual, video and installation artist Jeremy Deller, whose recent documentary Everybody in The Place: An Incomplete History of Britain tracked the rise of acid house and rave culture, is coming to Dublin for an event on 21 October, entitled ‘A Night of Art & Magic with Jeremy Deller & Friends’.

Turner Prize-winning artist Deller will be marking the launch of his latest book, Art is Magic, which seeks to tie up the key works of his career alongside the art, pop music, film, politics and history that have inspired his work.

He will be discussing the project with Siobhán Kane of Young Hearts Run Free at the event, which is set to take place at The Complex venue in Dublin.

The discussion will be prefaced by a screening of Everybody in The Place: An Incomplete History of Britain, which covers the meshing of acid house with the political turmoil in Britain in the 1980s and early-1990s, while Resonant Frequency, a short documentary film by Johnny Savage about community and broadcasting at Dublin Digital Radio will open up the proceedings.

The event will also see a live set from Frog Of Earth, a music project by Irish multidisciplinary artist/designer Mel Keane, as well as a DJ performance from Club Comfort’s Roo Honeychild.

Room 2 of The Complex, meanwhile, will see an Atomic Radio takeover all night long with F!ONN, Pippa Molony, Pesci Tooth & Reflekta holding court.

A Night of Art & Magic with Jeremy Deller and Friends is hosted by Con Artistes, and takes place at The Complex, Dublin, on 21 October. Tickets can be purchased here.
