FABRICLIVE announce first ever original artist release, Sully’s ‘Model Collapse’

FABRICLIVE has been a powerhouse in soundsystem culture for 25 years, known for its legendary Friday night sessions and iconic DJ mix series. Now, they’re kicking off a new chapter with their first-ever artist release—Sully’s Model Collapse.’

This one’s a statement of intent, blending FABRICLIVE’s deep roots with its forward-thinking vision. ‘Model Collapse’ is the perfect showcase of the label’s commitment to cutting-edge bass music, keeping it fresh while staying true to its legacy.

Sully, a producer at the top of his game, delivers two heavyweight Jungle/Drum & Bass tracks. The title track, ‘Model Collapse,’ takes inspiration from his early days in the free party scene, mashing up acid tekno’s raw energy with techstep’s deep bass, gritty drums, and some proper low-end wobble. ‘The Wash’ dives into sound experimentation, layering warped synths, pitch-shifted vocals, and intricate drumwork—showing just how deep Sully’s in the zone.

DJ Mag calls him “one of jungle’s brightest stars,” while Clash hails him as “a driving force in the evolution of jungle,” and Loud & Quiet say “Sully is the most exciting producer working in jungle right now.” With releases on Rupture, Over/Shadow, Keysound Recordings, and Astrophonica, Sully’s not just part of the scene—he’s shaping it.

‘Model Collapse’ drops as a special vinyl edition, featuring a stunning picture disc with a hand-etched design, pressed on heavyweight wax and mastered by Matt Colton at Metropolis. The Vinyl Factory takes care of manufacturing, and the artwork comes from London-based artist John Karborn. On the collab, Sully says: “We’ve worked on a few projects together, and I always love the process. He’s full of ideas, and you never quite know where they’ll go—which is most of the fun. FABRICLIVE is a new partnership for me, but we’re definitely on the same page when it comes to pushing things in a different and ambitious direction.”

After more than two decades shaping the UK’s underground, FABRICLIVE is still pushing boundaries across Jungle, Drum & Bass, Grime, Garage, Footwork, Amapiano, Dubstep, and beyond.

Since launching in 1999, FABRICLIVE has hosted some of the biggest names in the game—Andy C, Goldie, DJ Hype, LTJ Bukem, Calibre, Skream, Mala, Loefah, DJ EZ, Slimzee, Oneman, Four Tet, Aphex Twin, Hudson Mohawke, and Flying Lotus. So, I reached out and invited him to put together a mix for Renegade Riddims—and luckily, he was up for it.

With no strict time constraints on this mix, he’s really been able to stretch out and showcase his full range. What he’s put together isn’t just a collection of tracks—it’s a proper journey, something that feels increasingly rare these days. A great DJ doesn’t just play tunes; they create an experience, introduce listeners to fresh sounds, and bring forgotten gems back into the spotlight. That’s exactly what Emerald Lotus does, and he does it brilliantly.

A Jazzy, upbeat journey through the best Expressive Dance Music.

What’s your personal favourite track on it?

Personally, my favourite track in the mix is probably Magic by Clara Luzia and Kimyan Law. Such a perfectly delicate take on the Liquid DnB style.

What’s the special ingredient in this mix?

My personal special ingredient is not playing a single disposable tune. No tune in this mix is here just for a drop or double – every tune is worth having been played for at least 2 or 3 minutes. My personal rule is – if the track itself isn’t enough to make people dance for less than 2 minutes – you’ve missed the most basic aspect of DJing, which is picking good music which seamlessly flows. For me, a mix isn’t about the “specific points” throughout it. It’s about appreciating the whole journey from start to finish.

Tell us about your next release…

As you might have sussed out from my latest UKG Radio show, and the ending of this mix, I’ve been dabbling in a lot of UKG sounds recently. One track is this mix is being looked at by a big label – so I can’t say any more, but my next independant single looks to be an aggressive Swing arrangement behind a rugged Jungle/DnB beat. Sadly I couldn’t fit it quite in this mix to show off just yet, though.

What have you got coming up?

Weirdly enough, it’s all background stuff for me, right now. I’ve landed jobs making samples for a big sample pack creator, and I’m also doing some teaching at my old University. Music shouldn’t be about money, but the fact I’m not losing any money each month is helping keep the Lotus project floating more succinctly – even if the overall rate of output isn’t as likely to be as high as 2024.

When was the last time you actually raved?

I have two answers to this. The first is, I rave every time I mix in my room. I invite a friend over, or it might be just me – but I love every tune I play, and I love getting to choose the journey that I take. However, the last time I went out to rave at an official venue was seeing Sorrow and KOAN Sound at the Clock Factory in Bristol – Hands down the best music I’ve ever heard on a night out.

And finally, do you have a special message for our readers?

Nothing hugely special, I don’t think. I would prompt every listener to hear the details in the music. This mix isn’t meant to be a hard-core head banger from start to finish. It has jazzy bits, introspective bits, funky bits. Every 10-20 minutes, the vibe is changing. That, in my mind, is what brings true magic to an elongated musical performance.
