#MyRecordBag – Steve Lawler’s top tribal tracks
Written by rhythm86 on November 28, 2023
Steve Lawler has been a figurehead in electronic music since his early days organising illegal raves in the early 90s, through to his residencies at clubs such as Space Ibiza, The End and Twilo, to name but a few.
With releases on labels such as Hot Creations, Defected, Drumcode, Knee Deep, Get Physical, and Moon Harbour, along with his very own VIVa MUSiC, under his belt, his latest output is The More I Love You, featuring Aquarius Heaven, which was released on Dirtybird Records on 17 November.
Given his longstanding reputation for honing a deep, percussive sound, for the latest instalment of our #MyRecordBag feature, we asked the Birmingham native to name his top tribal tracks. Over to you, Steve.
BadBox feat Kenya – Underwater
“This track has all the elements I look for beyond music, the energy, the feeling of being in another world – you cant hear this track without it taking you to another place.”
Who Made Who feat Artbat – Closer
“Has to be my most played track in the last couple of years, it has been in almost every set since. This is really what music is about – a timeless piece of music.”
Ary Sya – Acid Night
“Pure bliss, such power in this low slung deep masterpiece.”
Tom Hennessy – Noctis
“A groove filled gunk dub, not what you would expect on this label. This nods back to the glory days of progressive house. One for my sets for some time to come.”
Phil Kieran & Green Velvet – Michael Jackson (Jamie Jones Edit)
“A floor stomper and then some – this has had many plays from me.. stroooong.”
Mike Steva – Time Of Light
“Take me back! Warehouse days of dirty sexy beats.”
Scope – Last Call (Original Mix)
“For the real DJs who shape the room and lay a journey of music to escape to – this is a beautiful piece of music.”
Fordian – Liason
“On my eVIVE Recordings label, this is one for the end of the night. Ravey and classy all the way through, hints of Chicago techno and afro house make this a stand out record.”
Paride Saraceni – Jim’s Prophecy (Doors Tribute)
“This is one of my biggest closing records and personal favourite party tracks.. this is done SO well. Being a huge fan of The Doors and Jim Morrison, this was obviously going to get my attention.”
Steve Lawler – The More I Love You featuring Aquarius Heaven
“And of course my latest offering – a low slung dirty acid number featuring the mysterious vocals of Aquarius Heaven.”
