On ‘AVALON,’ SOREN delivers hard dance from the desert
Written by rhythm86 on October 15, 2024
SOREN’s status as one of the most promising American acts in the hard dance scene isn’t up for debate. That’s the key takeaway from “AVALON,” a thunderous addition to the Dirty Workz signee’s statement-making series of singles this year.
Fittingly billed as “hard dance from the desert,” the Dancing Astronaut Artist to Watch in 2024‘s answer to “ON MY OWN” expands his strong musical identity (defined by dark, dramatic melodies; arena-sized sound; and a cerebral and distinctive sense of invention). On it, the Middle Eastern influence that threads “AVALON” and its bright, forward-thinking color kicks add a sense of novelty to SOREN’s inimitable, well-practiced, and immediately recognizable sound. And although the Middle Eastern feel that “AVALON” evokes is stylistically new for the SOREN project, it’s anything but for Bryce Sorensen, the Los Angeles-based producer behind it.
“When making this track, I was reminded of how much of an influence KSHMR has always been for me, dating all the way back to when I first started listening to dance music,” he said. “With ‘AVALON,’ I pay tribute to him by imagining what a SOREN hardstyle song would sound like when inflected with the Middle Eastern flair for which KSHMR is known.”
“AVALON” is SOREN’s fifth single of the year, following his recent appearances at EDC Las Vegas in May and Ultra Music Festival Miami in March. Stream it below.
