Desire Path’s new single, Not Skin Deep, marks an exciting return for the collaborative duo of producer Richard Bignell and vocalist Shelle Luscombe. Following the success of their debut album Astralize, this track delves deeper into the emotions and experiences that shaped their earlier work. With its signature ethereal harmonies, soothing melodies, and fresh production treatments, Not Skin Deep carries a positive and uplifting lyrical message. As with all Desire Path’s music, the track evolved organically through experimentation and improvisation, recorded in Richard’s West London studio using a mix of synthesized sounds, real instruments, and effects, with Shelle’s soulful vocals bringing it all together – a return to form for this remarkable pair.
Dream duo Desire Path started out as an ‘opportunity to play around’ – a spare time project to enjoy creating music, with no agenda and no end game. Richard, an accomplished engineer/producer with credits including Jamiroquai, Marc Almond and Groove Armada, and Shelle, a vocalist, radio presenter and entertainer, had worked together several times over a five year period, but this project was to be a step outside either’s previously explored creative toolkit. Before long, the music began to develop a personality of its own, drawing on the eccentric sounds of Enya yet never overstepping the line into pastiche, and the project sparked a momentum that was difficult to ignore. Their music is best described by a listening experience that takes you “to a sun-drenched beach in that relaxed state between awake and asleep, as your shoulders melt into the sand beneath, and your skin tingles with the touch of the sun. Your ears buzz with the gentle wash of the waves against the shore, and your eyes lose focus as you gaze at the horizon.”
