February 2025 sees Phase Records DNB welcome a fresh name to the roster. Long-standing friend of the label, it is Jev, makes his long-awaited debut with the ‘Variations EP’.

Phase Records has followed Jev’s journey since his days with PRFCT Mandem, and his achievements since then have been nothing short of impressive. With releases on heavyweight labels like Blackout and Eatbrain, he has firmly established himself in the heavy Neuro world of Drum & Bass. However, his versatility is what truly sets him apart.

The ‘Variations EP’ showcases a different side to Jev’s production, offering a diverse range of styles that stand apart from his more recent releases. The EP’s title is fitting, reflecting both the variation in production techniques and the distinct vibe of each track. This project is skatimal, playful, and designed to shake up the dancefloor, seamlessly fitting into sets across multiple sub-genres.

‘Revival’ sets the tone with an atmospheric and deep intro, smoothly rolling into a head-nodding drop. The title track, ‘Variations’, follows suit, carrying that skatimal energy forward with tight drums and intricate sonic details scattered throughout. True to its name, it keeps things fresh and unpredictable. Next is ‘Stoopid’, where a cheeky and memorable vocal takes centre stage, backed by a slick and efficient bassline. Closing out the EP, ‘Disturbance’ delivers a surge of heavy-hitting energy, ensuring the release ends on a high.

With the ‘Variations EP’, Jev proves once again that he is not bound by a single style, bringing his own twist to the Phase Records sound.
