Spotify Makes Lyrics Free Again For Ad-Supported Accounts
Written by rhythm86 on July 31, 2024
In May 2024, Spotify unveiled a rule change where free, ad-supported account users can only look up track lyrics for three times per month. It can be a very frustrating experience for music fans and may present a difficult task when it comes to choosing which songs wisely in regard to viewing lyrics. A couple months later, Spotify has reversed that route and the brand is now making lyrics free again for those accounts. Spotify now offers a preview of the lyrics and when tapping into the preview, it displays a banner ad with the option to dismiss. Afterwards, the account users can then see the lyrics scroll in real-time.
Additionally, according to an article from Digital Music News, every lyric request from Spotify now appears with an advertising banner before displaying the real-time lyrics. For the Spotify ad-supported (free) account users, having the lyrics be free not only saves money but also allows more fans to experience the true emotions and feelings that come out from the tracks that they enjoy listening to. Additionally, the reversion also benefit music streaming giant since showing the ads still bring in revenue for them. The reversion comes a month after Spotify hiked premium subscription plans for the second time in a year when it increased from $10.99 to $11.99 per month.
