The Chainsmokers Capture Equal Parts Novelty and Nostalgia With New EP, “No Hard Feelings”
Written by rhythm86 on May 11, 2024
Dialing back clock to 2016, The Chainsmokers are back with a new EP, No Hard Feelings, pulling the yarn of a seamless reconciliation of their past and future sounds.
The hit-making duo’s latest project is a comprehensive revisitation of their roots while forging ahead into new stylistic domains. With the release of the single “Friday,” fans were primed for a full-on revival of the The Chainsmokers’ hallmark carefree style—a promise fulfilled across six tracks that blend the familiar with the unexpected.
In a rebirth of mid-2010s future-pop, No Hard Feelings thrills with its foundation of robust 808s and expansive, melodic basses. Each track offers a burst of euphoria mixed with a tinge of nostalgia, yet it is clear that The Chainsmokers are not simply looking backward.
The EP’s opener, “No Shade at Pitti,” is a foray into hyperpop characterized by glittering synths and a bassline that pulsates with new-age vitality. From the smoky undertones of “Bad Advice” (with Elio) to the emotional resonance of “Green Lights,” The Chainsmokers are forging a familiar path with clear direction and renewed perspective.
