#MyRecordBag – Danny and Mike Parton’s top French touch gems

Written by on February 2, 2025

Danny and Mike Parton recently announced the launch of Jolene Records, a new label infused with influences from 90s grooves, French touch, disco and funk.

Their latest EP, Jolene 03, was released in January, featuring four tracks – Mike Parton’s What A Mess and Go Out, and Danny Parton’s Head In the Sky and In the Groove – which showcase the ‘music as a celebration’ vibe the pair are seeking to capture with the label.

With that in mind, the latest #MyRecordBag feature sees Danny and Mike Parton celebrate their top French touch gems.

Romanthony – Hold On

Mike: “Romanthony, an incredible producer and singer who contributed to Daft Punk‘s success! I love this mesmerising track that makes you want to sway in a beach bar under the sun. A house music icon gone too soon.”

Deaf’n Dumb Crew – Armaghetto

Danny: “I’m a huge fan of this group, which included none other than Sébastien Léger. They often ventured into some quirky explorations, but it was always effective. This track proves it perfectly.”

Dimitri From Paris – Sacre Bleu (Bob Sinclair mix)

Mike: “Two French artists who need no introduction but to whom we owe so much today! A super effective track that hasn’t aged a bit!”

Fafa Monteco – New York Afternoon

Danny: “I love the completely goofy vibe of this track! It just makes you want to dance and fool around with your friends, and that perfectly reflects the spirit of Jolene Records.”

Ian Pooley – 900 Degrees

Mike: “The first time I heard this sample was with DJ Mehdi and 113 in the track Jackpotes 2000... and I rediscovered it in a dancehall version thanks to Ian Pooley! Banger!”

Johnick – Major Sea

Danny “This is a little forgotten banger from the era when people would grab THAT one tiny sample, loop it, and make an entire track out of it. Simple but very effective!”

Le Knight Club – Gator

Mike: “A monotone and hypnotic track, just the way I like it!”

Funk Legacy – What You Gonna Do Baby (Remix)

Danny: “This is one of the very first vinyl records I bought and learned to mix with… that was a long time ago. I can tell you, I played it a lot! 25 years later, it still hasn’t bored me, and I still play it.”

Mr Oizo – Jo

Mike: “One of my favourite artists who handles sampling like no one else! This track can make you dance or be enjoyed at home—it’s a track that seems so simple, yet is incredibly effective!”

Benjamin Diamond – Just a Little Time

Danny: “Definitely not a dancefloor track, but I love this one and listened to it a lot as a teenager. It was part of the album Stranger Attitude, which included Benjamin’s hit In Your Arms. That album is full of gems. People called it ‘French touch’, but in reality, it was so much more.” 🙂

Danny and Mike Parton’s Jolene 03 is out now on Jolene Records. More info is available here.
